A guide to Crikvenica
This is what we would tell a friend arriving for the first time. No tourist-board phrases, and the numbers come from driving guests to the beach over the past few seasons.

Why this guide exists
Our guests ask the same three hundred questions every season: where the sand is, how warm the sea is in June, whether you can get here without a ferry, where to eat fish and where to eat pizza, and what to do when the bura blows for two days. Rather than answer each time by message, we wrote the answers down here and keep them current.
Everything here has been checked on the ground, not copied from tourist-board pages. If something changes (a beach gets a new shower, a konoba closes, a bus line changes its timetable), we change the text and put the date of the update under the heading.
More from the guide
Day trips from Crikvenica
Crikvenica is on the mainland, so every one of these trips is made without a ferry and without a timetable. Distances are measured by road from Put Sopaljske, where both our properties are.
| Trip | Km | Drive |
|---|---|---|
| Vinodol valley (Bribir) | 11 km | 17 min |
| Rijeka | 31 km | 35 min |
| Krk town | 42 km | 47 min |
| Opatija | 45 km | 49 min |
| Plitvice Lakes (Entrance 2) | 133 km | 2 h 35 min |
The island of Krk is reached by bridge. No ferry, no queue. The Vinodol valley just behind town is the closest trip and the least known: the old fortified towns of Bribir, Grižane and Drivenik, all within about twenty minutes. Plitvice is the only trip on this list that needs a whole day.
Why Crikvenica
Crikvenica is not Dubrovnik and does not try to be. There are no city walls and no cruise ships. There is a sandy beach, a long seafront promenade, and a town you reach without a ferry.
What you get here is proximity: two hours and fifteen minutes from Zagreb, under two hours from the Slovenian border, 18 km to Rijeka Airport on Krk. What you do not get is the exotic. If you want an island that takes half a day to reach, this is not it.
